| PBIS 05/15/2018Auburn is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support) school. When students misbehave, we work with them to teach alternate behaviors. We feel students should spend as much time in class as possible. From the 2016-2017 school year to the 2017-2018 school year, referrals went down 38%. It is successful because we do not rely on punishments. We work on being a disciplined person and moving on after incidents by using them as a life lesson. We find that the students who work through issues are happier, more involved, and have a sense of being part of a larger and more positive community. At Auburn, if you show good behavior and strength of character we acknowledge it. We are proud of all our students achieve.
Beginning in January, we implemented a Student Recognition System. This allows staff to nominate students, via a student designed web program, who show positive attitudes, respect, and act responsibly. A picture of the nominated student, their name, who nominated them and the reason for the nomination, may be viewed on television screens throughout the school. Staff loves this easy way to let our students know we see all of the wonderful things they are doing. Students enjoy the recognition and have been seen taking selfies next to the screen. The system has been running for only four months and we have had 310 students nominated. That is amazing! We love to see positivity grow at ACC. |
